So I am helping a friend find a rifle to buy, and he has stated he wants something like the Ruger Precision Rifle. In fact he actually wants the RPS, but its out of stock. Additionally, I asked him how much he was going to spend on glass, and he said 250-500. I told him emphatically that he should at least match the price of glass to the price of the rifle.
So, main point. What are some comparable rifles to the RPS, (not in price, but function) that hover around 1k, which would allow him to spend about 1k on glass?
I think he wants 6.5 Creedmor but I have told him to be open to different calibers.
In terms of what he wants to do with the gun, i think mostly long range precision target shooting.
He is pretty new to shooting overall.
