    Need help identifying a rifle

    Hello All,

Looking for a little help identifying my Dad's rifle. It has no manufacturer markings that I can find. It does however have a serial number, and a proof mark. The proof mark appears to be a nazi eagle above a swastika. It is located on the bottom of the receiver with the serial number to the right. Just right of the serial number is what appears to be a lowercase "b". The rifle has marking on the barrel that appear to be 3006 RHR. We are trying to locate a replacement stock after his stock broke when his sling broke off. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd really like to see better
      pic's of the rifle also.
      The double trigger is interesting.

Yep, basic 98 that someone or some company sporterized and converted to the popular-at-the-time double trigger. Looks like broken stock? Unfortunately in that shape its not worth all that much. Cant tell by the pics but usually the scope bases were soldered to the receiver.

Mauser 98 with a double set trigger, stocks are plentiful for that model.

Take the stock off of it and see if the double set trigger says Kepplinger on it?

                  Thanks everyone.

I will see about finding any other markings. Found out that "b" might mean it was manufactured in 1923. Going to do a bit more research, and maybe look at some Mauser replacement stocks.

Nope, the Germans recycled their Sr #s. Beginning each production year they started with 4 digits from 0001 to 9999. Then added an A and ran same numbers to 9999. Then added a B same same until end of year. Then they started over with no letter.

If there is a Crest under the frnt scope base. That can help nail down manufacturer. But yr of manufacture on a Mauser mil-surp remains a mystery.

Real nicely done sporter. I would look into having original stock professionally repaired.

Eagle over Swastika is a military acceptance stamp, [waffenkamph] not a "proof mark". Same for all years. May find some "proofs" under the woodline.

                    Sorry can't be more help.

This. That is a nice sporter conversion. You should be able to have that repaired professionally.

That is really goods to know. This has a 5 digit serial #, so that leaves me a bit confused in reference to starting over at 9999. Unfortunately the numbers I showed in the pic are from under the woodline. I will see if I can get my hands on the rifle to inspect it closer than what my dad is capable of... as you can see from the blurry pics he is a bit on the casual side of this. Thanks again.
