Thinking About a 223 Bolt Gun......

So I've been thinking about a 223 Rifle. It would be a Plinking / Target gun.
I doubt it would ever be over 300 hundred yards, if that.

I thinking about a 20" barrel. I have lots of 62 & 69 grain 223 ammo. So I'm leaning toward a 8 or 7 twist barrel. But there don't seem to be many that fit.

Something in the $500 to $1000 range. Just a fun gun, nothing too serious.

Tikka T3x Varmint. According to their website they list a 20" model, but I haven't seen anyone that stocks one.

Ruger Predator....22" barrel, or Compact with an 18"....but not crazy about Ruger's.

Remingtons......most models are 9 twist barrels. The 5R model seems to be a longer barrel, what little info I can find about it.

Howa's and Savage......don't know much about them.

CZ 527's are 9 twist barrels.

    Any Suggestions ?

Just for fun, I'd go with CZ 527 FS, elegant and timeless look.

69gr bullets are just about perfect for a 1/9 twist barrel

New here, lurking for a while, just relo'd from NC. Challenge getting used to the gun culture here. I had a Mossberg MVP for a while as I wanted something different than my AR. Mounted a 3X9 scope and it shot decent out to 100 yards. Original mag (metal) it came with was junk, the bolt kept hanging up on it. Switched to a Magpul and it cycled flawlessly. No issues at all with the rifle (ran without a hiccup). Sold it because I simply lost interest in it.

Some models of the MVP have 1-7 twist. Like this one https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...AC+16+223+10RD

I have the Remington 700 SPS (20") heavy barrel. I love it. Its just so much fun and cheap. Any model will be awesome! The stock is garbage on it though.

Ya know what , if you could find a good used savage 10fp from years past .... they were a good gun. The twist is 1 in 9 so that may not fit your needs , but they were some great shooters

I went with Savage Model 11.
                    Very happy with it.

i also am in the market for a bolt in 223. I am a fan of savage so the others will need to impress me.After all the hoopla i am sticking with the axis. bottem line the Savage will be accurate. All the little negatives [ long throw action etc ] do not worry me. this will be my 3rd savage bolt rifle. I would not trade my Mark 2 heavy barrel 22lr for a custom expensive 22 rifle.

I have a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223, it's a nice accurate little rifle, but frankly I should have gone .308

                        Otherwise, have fun.

I have a 700 varmint in 223 that I chopped down to 18" and added a surefire brake. My son took over that rifle and I rarely get to shoot it

I'm looking at the Rem 700 5R SS as an AR replacement. I love .223, but .308 would increase the ammo costs. I punch paper and try to do over 500 yards when that range is available.

I would want a basic great shooter, accurate for long distance shooting. I know the .223 has limits over 600 yards, the .308 will do better. I also have a 20" SS Grendel AR for longer distances, I would like to get close to that so .223 is probably out of the equation.

I've always wanted a 700 but the new laws now make that more necessary as I don't want to deal with RAW traveling/storage/usage issues here in Commiefornia.

I expect to see a specialized AR lower made for here that has no provisions for mags at all, a single shot bolt gun lower. I wouldn't mind as I choose and place every shot as if I didn't have semi-auto capability. I got over mag dumps years ago. Until that stuff is sorted out, the Rem 700 is in my wheelhouse.

Why not put a post 2017 CA legal mag-lock or make your AR featureless? I still have pre-Bullet-Button break open mag locks. That said, I want a .223 bolt-action so I can see my hits on target without the recoil of a .308 making me have to find my target through the scope again.
