Bench shooter, like you usually sit down when you are plinking or bench shooter like you are interested in making little groups on paper?

Well either way I guess .223 is the way to go unless you want to use it for pig or deer, which I would say 7.62x39 - both are pretty cheap as for ammo cost.

Shooting for groups might get frustrating with x39, but I would prefer the bigger holes.

          CZ 527

I have one in 7.62x39 and using the set trigger ( which is VERY NICE ) and good handloads, I can get great groups at 100 yards. The Golden Tiger ammo sjoots about 1" @ 100 yards also. I love mine.

I have a .223 527 Carbine (18.5" barrel) with a 3-9x32mm scope that produces this type of result.

5 shot group (called the flier), dime for reference, 100 yds
fired from bench, single shot adapter, sandbag for a front rest
remanufactured 55 gr, soft point ammo

                Every shot missed the dime.

In 7.62x39, purchased from a range buddy, Leupold 3-9. With M67 ammo got a 1.5" group @ 100 yds. A friend hand loaded me some rds with A-max poly tip bullets. A dime did cover the group of 5. I have a photo somewhere. Best shooting I've ever done. Didn't take it out again for 3 months for fear it was a lucky fluke. But I did and it wasn't (with the hand loads).
