    Night force Mounting Rings

I tried to do a search but couldn't find anything on point and I am receiving conflicting information from various sources. I plan to mount a Nightforce BR with a 56mm objective lens on a Rem 700 XCR, .308 and was told a Nightforce Ultra High mount of 1.125" would clear but the math and other sources say it won't work. Does anyone have any experience with this combination and could explain why the math isn't working out?

    THANKS

Are you using the direct mount of a rail and ring combo? If rail and rings, what rail are you using?

Also, stock barrel on that XCR?

I hate to say it but the best way is to mount the scope and see. Make sure the rings are returnable if you get the wrong set. The Ultra highs are way up there, do the math again.

I planned on using the ring and base one piece combination from Nightforce. On the $niper forum a member indicated a medium height would work. In talking to a Brownells' tech, he said it depends on where the rings are measured from. Rounding up a 56mm is about 1.18" from center and the ring height indicates 1.12" from ??. However, if the measurement is from the bottom of the ring rather than from the center then plenty of room.

Anyway, my Rem 700 XRC in 26" and .308 arrived after nearly a month. I decided to switch from a Leupold 4 8.5X25X50 to a Nightforce Bench Rest 8X42X56. I also picked some reloading components and am anxious to break it in and start shooting!!

        THANKS-for the help

According to this chart you need .513" from your action to the bottom of your scope. http://www.brownells.com/GunTech/Rin....htm?lid=11213

Now knowing that, a quick call to Nightforce will tell you where they come up with the measurements they post on their website.

Here is a picture of a Nightforce 12X42X56 on a Remington 700 short action with a 1.250 max heavy varmint barrel that is 0.930 at 30 inches.
I am using a 20 MOA Ken Farrell base J-B welded to the action and Burris Zee rings.
I can measure anything you need measured.

              BTW nice rifle!
It's trying to get a schematic of the NF ring and base mount in order to determine the measurement points but cannot locate one. Anyway, like others have said I will need to just order one, try it, and make a determination of it's fitment.

              THANKS-though

Does the JB-Weld hold under recoil?

The screws hold it to the receiver.
The JB weld is just used as bedding.

56mm is the LENS diameter, not the OUTSIDE diameter of the scope's front end.

That actually looks a tad high, Lynn. Unless you wanted it extra high?

Dang, didn't even consider that. Anyway, I ordered the high mount and will install it in order to check fitment.
