CZ 527 Range

What kind of range can I expect from a CZ 527, 7.62X 39? Id be using steel case ammo and some brass, Remington or the like, nothing fancy.

My semi auto .223's have red dots on them, all configured for within a hundred yards or so. Saiga has iron sights, 200 yards or so. Would like something scoped, and bolt action, that can hit targets at 300-400 yards. Like the idea of the CZ 527 because I already keep 7.62 in supply.

Have wanted a .308 bolt gun for years but have no desire/cant afford to stock up on another, more expensive round.

Bullet drop is pretty significant at distance with the cartridge. Other than that it is probably very accurate.

I'm guessing 400 meters would be about where things start to get inconsistent.

I wish there was a 527 in 6.5 Grendel.

300-400 hundred meters is about what Im looking for, I dont really shoot further than that. Sounds like it could work.

Thought maybe shooting the 7.62 from a bolt gun with a longer barrel may improve the range a bit over say a AK style rifle, but dont know.

I shoot mine up to 200 yds. Groups are not very impressive with steel cased ammo. If you reload it is a very accurate rifle.
If you want accuracy over 200 yards I would get something else.

I wouldn't think you get much more out of the cartridge from a longer barrel. Most of the pressure in a 7.62x39 is burnt off by the 16 inch mark, and from what I've read gains beyond that length are minimal, even dropping velocity past 20 inches.

With a 7.62 527 in hand, you are exactly one barrel (via action trip to Pacnor) away from exactly that. All you need is is a screwdriver to remove the barreled action and a pen to write the check. Will cost you about 600 bucks.

OP, I'm not an expert at 223 and 7.62 capability via factory (bulk) ammo at 300 yards, but people shoot 223 at 600 yards, so maybe that is something to consider too? Maybe 527 owners or even AR owners can comment on shooting 300-400 yards with bulk ammo that you are likely to be stocking or stocking up on. Might be a good alternative to what you are looking for but still within your budget and cartridge range.

As a CZ rifle fan, I think you are making a great choice. Just need to pick the cartridge that works best for you.

Cz sells a bunch of different sized front and rear replacement sight sizes. If you don't want to glass your rifle.

I love CZ rifles. The 527 in x39 is on the list. I have a 452 Ultra Lux in .22lr and a 550 American in .308 with both the 4 and 10 round mags.

Ever since I shot one it has been on my buy list.

Accuracy is VERY good with milsurp ammo. Try different manufacturers and you will not be disappointed in accuracy as long as the ammo wasn't salvaged from a VC rice paddy.
Adding a good scope will increase the giggle factor. It does what no AK/SKS will do and it's lighter to boot.
Shooting to 400 yds at 12x12 steel plates was easy.
