This has probably been brought up, I have a Rem 700 in .308 that has a hinged plate. I'm thinking about converting it to a detachable magazine. Any recommendations?

CDI or PTG depending how much you want to spend. You either need to send them off to get them fitted or you can do them yourself depending on your confidence in your ability to do such a project. I put a CDI in a 700P in .308 a few years ago and it works fine. You can also search for a drop-in so its just a plug-n-play type of thing. -
I got one from PTD (Pacific Tool & Gauge) and it was basically a drop in installation. Been using it for over a year and it works perfect.Comment

After experience, I would NOT use another assembly made by HS Precision; the original ten round magazines continued to fall free from the action upon firing, were very expensive, and rattle like a soda can being dragged behind a kid on a bicycle. Several were sent back to HS, along with the bottom metal, and they still failed to work properly. I ended up accepting a few more four round magazines in trade, from HS, because of this issue.

The PTG "drop in" unit for Remington 700 uses ATI (Legacy) magazines. PTG cuts a slit in the rear of the mag to accommodate the rear mounted magazine latch, the ATI "bottom metal" uses a front latch set up. I'd skip the ATI bottom metal because it's flimsy.
I have one sitting on my bench and will probably use it in a Remington 700 VLS in 6mm Remington.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
