No love for extended eye relief optics I suspect.
I tried a similar setup year ago on an M14 pattern rifle and didn't like it.
You are really limited in IER, vs what's available in other scopes.
Hard to find a big objective, lots of flexibility in magnification, and reticle options.
IER turns off a lot of people BC you basically take a rifle capable of a lot more, and mount an optic that give you a lot less.Comment

Gotcha...I didn't see it from that point of view (all pun). Good thing the rail runs the length of the rifle so I can mount my vortex pst on it. Thank you, good sir.No love for extended eye relief optics I suspect.

I've seen guys drive themselves nuts on the M14 platform BC the scout mount interacts with the barrel.
You won't have that issue, but lots of variables are problematic and need to be eliminated as a system.
IER scopes aren't intended for dialing in tiny groups from a on a 2" @ distance so you get a disconnect from intended use vs output. In Nightforce there's huge glass around $1100 all day long.
Over the past few months I've seen legit Mark 4 4.5-14's sell for $500-650. 6.5-20's are maybe $150 more. A lot of guys selling optics that are way over for their environment.
I opted for a 3.5-10 for max capability vs widest fov + lowest I could set over my bore.
I'm 1/2 - 3/4 moa dot hold from a 200yd zero to hit targets at the 100yd and 300yd berms.
I can just hold center if I'm lazy or tired.
Wind doesn't affect a 7.62 enough that I won't drill a 4" somewhere within 300yds.
When I've shot a 50mm objective, the spread was not so easy to hold center and favor a little according to distance to hit near center fast. Those fractions of moa or mil start to stack up past 300yds and it is faster to touch in 1moa adjustments vs 1/2 or 1/4 clicks. Even faster is not touching your turrets and knowing your setup well enough for holds, so overbuying complicates things.
FOV was important BC at end of day I would start punching targets people had abandoned 100-300yds as fast as I could settle back onto the glass.
When I'm in LA I like Angeles to stretch out to 600yds.
No change to my zero if I don't want to.
I can use hold over and move around comfortably.
Just a few things to consider.Last edited by nothingextra; 06-09-2016, 7:47 AM.Comment
