    Remington 700 from 1962

    Hello CG,

A friend of mine is looking to trade a first year Remington 700 chambered in 7mm mag. It has a Leupold VX scope on there, and is in pretty good condition. Can anyone help with value on this? It's blued with a wood stock of course, and there is no visible rust, although I have not seen it in person.

    Hey Jerry,

Does he know what exact Remington 700 model it is? They have made literally dozens of models over the years from more economic options to higher end blued models with hiqher quality wood with hand done checkering. Does it have really nice wood with checkering? Is it blued? Lastly is it an ADL version with an internal magazine that can only be unloaded from the top? Does it have sights? 7mm mag is a less common cartridge (compared to others) so that also will effect it's value. Still in production but may be less desireable to purchase compared to 308 30-06 or 243 270 etc.

Technology has really changed since the early days. You can buy a pretty darn accurate hunting rifle for really inexpencively this has hurt resale value of older models.

Pictures go a long way in these kinds of situations.

I believe it's a BDL, the stock does have checkering, it has a hinged floorplate, and has a glossy blued finish. As far as the cartridge it is chambered in, I believe 7mm mag is one of the most popular calibers, and was released with the model 700. Personally, I have several rifles I hunt with chambered in 7mm mag, as do many of my hunting friends.

Attached is a picture, sorry, not the best of quality as it's from a cell phone picture. And there's only one picture, the rest came out too poorly to post. hahaha

It's not bad from what I hear.

I wouldn't pay more than $550 with scope.

As TMB 1 said: 7mag less common ? I see 7 Mags all over the country, have a BAR Belgian made and Love it. Awesome in 700 BDL rifles.

$500-$550 they are a nice hunting rifle in that configuration and the older models as such have a slight following but usually only by older guys, they are a hard sale now days due to all of the tactical/tacticool followers in these times of life.

Wow, that seems a bit low for some reason. I'll pass the info along.

7RemMag is a VERY common hunting caliber, ammo is available pretty much everywhere.

The rifle is in good condition (from the photo anyway) but despite its vintage it isn't a collectible and certainly not rare, they've made literally millions of them. $500 is about right for a private party sale.

They're not giving the scope any value, and pricing for a quicker sale probably.

I can't tell from pic. Is the scope newer or older?
