McMillan A5 stock advice

Been thinking more and more about replacing the HS Precision stock that was supplied with my Savage 110 FCP 338LM. Called Manners, they no longer inlet for the Savage LA. Called McMillan, they do. So I'm considering the A5 with the Integral Clamp Bar Adjustable Cheekpiece, Pre-Installed Machined-in Pillars, Pachmayr Decelerator Pad (they said these seem to work better and are more durable than the Limbsaver Pad), Picatinny Rail for my Atlas bi-pod, and have it painted Tan 2 color Speckletone Granite. No Cups, Loops or Sling studs needed.

I just got the action back from Barlein where they installed a new 28" barrel, 1.130 x 2.5 Str Taper .843 @ 28". The action and barrel are off being Cerakoated in Titanium Gunmetal now.

I've never ordered a custom stock before, its a lot of $ and almost more importantly a 4 month lead time. I would hate to place the order and something not be correct or what I wanted. Just looking for some advice and see if I'm missing something before placing the order.

I guess I'm just looking for any general words of advice, things to watch out for, or if the options I listed appear good. Hate to wait 4 months only to find out I missed something.

Ask McMillan if they will install KMW cheekpiece hardware instead of their own.

Their own hardware is not as good as the KMW setup.
If they won't install the KMW hardware, order the stock without any hardware and glue it in yourself.
The KMW hardware fits into the same cheekpiece inlet as McMillan uses for theirs.

have one on my 300 win mag and really like it. action is a winchester model 70 and it has a 26inch m24 contour barrel and actually has the same break (APA Fat Bastard). it is substantially heavier than the stock one that came on the rifle but it has a nice feel to it. built like a tank. will upload some pics in a few.

What Randall said...the KMW hardware is a big up grade over McMillans.

Call McMillan and ask if they will install it since they are building the stock then just send it to them.

as promised, but before i do i just want to add that its great to see love for the savage rifle, especially in 338LM.

Since this is just a target gun, I don't need to lug it around anywhere. I think that will help balance the gun with the extra weight of the longer and heavier barrel.

I opted to not get the sniper fill, the weight of the stock coupled with the heavy barreled action made it a very stable platform. Should the need arise to have to move the tool around, while heavy, would still be manageable, albeit not fun hahaha. Have no complaints with the standard hardware and since it's only being used at the range.

Do NOT order it with sniper fill.
The adjustable cheekpiece and hardware add enough extra weight to it already.
Sniper fill makes the gun really butt heavy.
The only reason for sniper fill would be to balance out a truck axle barrel and then you are getting into the 19-20lb weight range which is too heavy to shoot any positional with unless you wear a shooting jacket.
