New rifle- needs optic

Just put a Tikka T3 in jail, and now am looking for the ideal scope.

The rifle will be used for hunting both pig and deer. Looking to spend less than 600 if possible. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I like Leupold 3-9x40mm.

Depending on features it can be around $300-$500.

Im a 2.5-10 nikon monarch fan. get your ammo and get some dials made.
When you're in the thick, the low power of 2.5 and wide FOW is nice. 10 power on 400+ yards is nice as well.

Leupold VX-2 in 3X9X40 with Duplex reticle sighted in 2.75" high at 100 yards. The VX-3 in 3.5X10X40 with everything else the same is even better. Get both with a NON-ADJ -A.O.
Put a Limbsaver Direct Replacement Recoil Pad on it. This is just 2 Philips screws and anyone can do it.
I Have tried all sorts of slings and the Claw sling works best for me and most of the people who I know.
Get a lens pen and do NOT get scope flip-up covers as sooner or later they will cost you and animal. Especially hunting in Ca.

You choose a great rifle for hunting. I have 2 of them, a 6.5X55 and a 7mm-08. My daughter has one in 308Win. We have taken game with them.
All of ours and one several friends have use the factory rings and have had ZERO trouble. I have many, many rounds fired thru mine. They all have Leupold 3X9X40 scopes. Some people say that the factory rings or screws are no good. That has not been the case with ours. I suggest trying the factory rings before doing something else.

What chambering did you buy? If I may ask?

I went with a .30-06. Thanks for the info! I am looking at the Vortex Viper HS 2.5-10. Have a vortex and really like it. But will look at the Leupolds as well!

I'd get a nice Leupold under 12oz. They have a cool 30mm tube 1-4x pig hunting scope that looks pretty sweet. But any 2-7x or 3-9x would be peferct.

Leupold, or Nikon Monarch, in a 2-7; more than enough mag for most hunting, little smaller and lighter...

Does anyone here like Vortex's for hunting? I am seeing an overwhelming slant towards Leupold. Looking at their prices and features versus a Vortex Viper, I tend to favor the Vortex. Plus, I already have a vortex on another gun, and its quality and warranty are unmatched. I do know Leupolds are excellent, but what makes them better than a Vortex?

Just trying to absorb as much info as possible.

So you would rather have a non illuminated reticle? Why? Wouldn't that hinder low light shooting?

It may not be, I usually recommend Leupold or Bushnell because I've used them for a really long time with no problems. If you were asking about lower priced scopes it'd be Nikon or Weaver, but I haven't used them for very long in comparison.
