URSA 2000+ Yard Match This Sunday

Shooters we are holding another match this Sunday weather permitting. Rain on Friday is okay but rain on Sunday means no match. Please watch this thread just in case.
For those familiar with this event please drive up the mountain and set up.
I will pick up any new shooters at the Chevron Station in Upper Lake at 7:30 AM and we will caravan up the mountain.

Someday I'm going to make it to one of these matches, even just to watch if nothing else. I don't have a scope/rifle setup for that distance but it would be cool just to see some of the rifles you guys shoot.

If you live in Willis you should stop by and check-out one of our matches.
Take hwy 20 to upper lake and meet us at the Chevron at the roundabout.
It is 90 degrees right now in Santa Rosa but on The WeatherUnderground they are forecasting rain Friday and Saturday.
The rain doesn't hurt the roads or make it too wet to shoot what it does is to make it extremely hard to spot your bullet splashes.
Nothing more frustrating than not being able to spot your misses.

I do live in Willits and I know where the chevron is. I'm going to make a serious effort to get out there this Sunday, just to watch if anything. I've got a RPR in 6.5CM, but I don't think it will be worth shooting that far without a more extreme cant base. I have a lifted four wheel drive so the road shouldn't be an issue. I'm working on clearing my Sunday schedule so I can come out and observe this awesome shooting distance. Hopefully the rain lets up so this goes off without a hitch.

I'm going to do my best to make it weather permitting. No time for load development on the new barrel.......and I'm already making excuses...

Is a ruger precision rifle in 6.5 creedmoor worth bringing out for these distances? Or is more scope travel/rail cant needed realistically to make it that far? Burris XTR II 5-25x50 is the scope I have on it.

              Killer,

You will need to verify your trajectory; but, I believe you will need to use a POA that is 15 mils above the gong. Then you will have ~4 seconds after the shot to move down to the gong to spot your splashes. The real issue is that a 140 gn 6.5 mm bullet makes small splashes at 2000 yards.

Keep in mind that there have been shooters making 4/10 gong strikes with a 7mm Rem mag. Even the 308 guys hit the gong once every 100 rounds

              Cheers,

Just curious what do most guys shoot at 2000 ?
Would like to see some pics and details. Just to drool and learn
                Thanks
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Mostly 338 variants, and 50 cal's. A few 7mm's, and 300WM have done the trick. One of my 7mm WSM's shot by "Stomper" has a tie for the record of 7 out of 10 hits at 2050 along with a .50 cal. You can see my personal rig on my website in my signature for some pics. I've since re-barreled in 338LM IMP for more velocity using the 300g Bergers.

You need ~110 moa of elevation to hit the gong with a 6.5CM. I did it once with a bunch of help from Shaun and LynnJr.

For those unfamiliar Skkeeter is one of the gunsmiths who attend our matches.
He is up and running now and his rifles shoot very well.
If it doesn't rain on Saturday I am giving him two guns to work on probably more if I find some more barrels in my gun room.
Tomorrow the weather will either let us shoot or postpone the match so let's keep our fingers crossed.

At 2000 yards any rifle that will push a 0.500 BC bullet at 3000 fps will work. Naturally as the BC goes up you can scrub off some velocity.
Mitch has been winning a lot lately with a standard 338 Lapua.
Skkeeter post some links to your website's so people can ship you work.

I don't know, I'm not responsible for keeping score at the matches. It was one of the earlier events where the format was still getting worked out.

The column headings provide the decodes:
