Probably due to the fact it is a black rifle!

          Non of the above...
Just read somewhere that the barrel is threaded...
I was looking at an SPS Tactical and realized the LTR is a little lighter and considered a "Better" choice for not much more $$$.
          Am I correct?

I do have the ltr in 308. The rifle is lighter than the sps. It does not have the threaded barrel though. The stock is largely the cost difference out of the box. If you do plan on changing the stock may as well get the sps.
One gripe I have is the ltr has a slightly shorter stock, so if you have longer arms it can make positioning yourself a little challenging when shooting.
I can definitely say the ltr is very accurate. Mine in particular likes black hills 168gr. Last time I had it out was able to get consistent hits on a standard IDPA target at 609 yards.

Personally I would go for the new R5 G2. It has a threaded barrel 20". Riflegear has one in stock. Or go with the 24". I have an older R5 and it is very good. Better than my PSS. Not as good as my M24 SWS. But that was a bit spendy.

The LTR has a better stock than an SPS tactical.
The LTR barrel is not as good as an SPS tactical barrel.

Thats good to know. What have you found that makes it a better barrel? Differences in chamber? Overall rigidity in the barrel?

                    LTR barrels are fluted.
                    They recoil more.
                    They heat up faster.
They are not as consistent as a normal heavy barrel.

                      REMINGTON 700 LTR

That's funny, I have had both Remington LTR and SPS tactical. The LTR was by far a better gun. With Black Hills ammo it would shoot 5 shots into .26" consistently. Best my SPS would do was just under an inch.

That's likely a function of the stocks and triggers more than the barrels.

I know you specialize in barrels, so you should know that kind of accuracy comes from more than just stock and trigger. I would put it up against my Cooper any day.

My SPS Tactical was amazing!!! The action sat in a McMillan stock.
