This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^. Measure the case head to shoulder datum line on your fired cases and set up your sizing die to bump the shoulder back .001"-.002" from your fired cases. Be sure to deprime the fired cases cases to be measured, a cratered fired primer will give false readings.

what are your thoughts of neck sizing only vs pushing the shoulder back with a FL sizing die?

You can get away with a few neck only sizings, but eventually, you will have to F/L size. I don't N/O size more than 3-4 time before F/L sizing and when I do, I make very clear notes on how many times the cases have been N/O sized.

The first time you have to beat open the bolt when you've stuck a N/O sized case in the chamber will convince you.

I F/L size nearly all of the time. A properly set up F/L die, bumping the shoulders minimally (.001"-.002") will give you long brass life.
