Ruger M77 Mk ii

Guys how good is the m77, I have one but I never hear anyone talk about it. My M77 mk II is in 7mm mag.

They are fine rifles. I have a number of the tang safety models and have used them a lot. I do quite a bit of fun shooting and load development work as well as hunting.

Not a thing wrong with them. I have a number of friends who have them and all are happy.

The tang safety one are NOT cheap around here. I would like to get one to build my granddaughter a 257Roberts like her mothers.
But she may end up with a Tikka

I have a M77 Hawkeye All Weather in 7mm-08, what a great gun. Topped it with a Leupold 3x9x42 Windplex, excellent shooter, damned magazine only holds 4 rounds.
But got it NIB for $499, from Davidsons. A2

The M77MKII's are great rifles. I have bought, sold , hunted and target shot with them for yrs now. Nothing wrong with them. They just don't get the press all the other guys give their Winchesters or Remingtons or custom schutzenboomers. They don't need it. Bill Ruger was a modern day John Moses, some say, and his designs have stood the test of time since 1949. The "cheep" days for firearms are over, esp Ruger (and others). A used M77MKII will run you from 450-600+ bucharoos depending in config- altered ones lots less.

USMCM16A2---If you are hunting and you need more than 4shots(5 with one in the chamber) it is time to stop and figure out what is wrong--you or the rifle/scope?
If target shooting you have plenty of time to reload or just shoot one then load again.

So what is the problem.
My tang safety 257R/25-06/30-06 all hold 5 in the mag. They must have changed the design---yes they did. They must have figured you are such a great shot you did not need the extra round.

I've got one in 30-06. Very accurate with my hand loads as long as the action screws are torqued correctly. It took me a while to figure that out.

Fantastic rifles... matter of fact my first rifle was a left handed one in 30-06... A lot of gun for a 12 year old but it has taken many deer. I've also shot some pretty impressive groups with it for a bone stock hunting rifle.

With a Timney or a trigger job they are one of the very best bolt actions out there in my opinion.

They've always been the red-headed step-child of bolt guns, saddled with the usual Ruger presumption of inelegant durability.

I got mine, stainless/synthetic and .308, way back when mainly due to Cooper's preference for a classic Mauser-style action with controlled feed. They didn't have much of a reputation for precision, but I must've lucked out on mine, to the point where I stopped telling people how it shot because nobody believed me. I had the barrel shortened to 19" and iron sights installed, more of Cooper's influence plus a personal prejudice against rifles that don't have any sights. I also free-floated the barrel just for GP, and after owning it for some time, finally broke down and bought the cheapest aftermarket trigger I could find, don't even remember the brand. Tiny bit o' mush, but breaks a lot lighter.





It normally carries a 'scope, I just had it off when I took this pic years ago. I've had it so long that the elastic in the butt-cuff is fatigued to the point that the cartridges fall out when the rifle is turned over, need to get me a new one.

They are great rifles. Just sold one to one of our members here. Still have one[25-06] that resides in Idaho.
