What's the good, the bad, and the ugly? I've read that they're mostly plastic inside. Any personal experience would be appreciated

let's talk remington 710
WTB: Marlin 989 M2 stock (uncracked), and 989 M2 rifles
ThanksTags: None -
You do NOT want one! Garbage thru and thru. Do a bit more research.
Mossberg, Howa, Savage, etc. Way better choices than the 710. -
It was so bad they discontinued it and made it the 770.
783 actually looks decent for a starting rifle.Comment

It was designed for the hunter fired a few rounds a year. The bolt locks into the barrel and not the action. That's the few things I remember reading when the 710 first came out.Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your Honour

The good---None
The bad---everything
The ugly---yes and then they built another POS called the 770
Bottom line run away from any 710 or 770A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

It is to rifles what those pot-metal, last-for-100-rounds Saturday Night Special $50 pistols were to handguns."Two dead?!? HOW?!?"

I don't know anything about this rifle but based on the comments it sounds like Remington's version of the hi pointHave a good day!Comment

That's not a good comparison. Hi-Points are rough, basic, and ugly as a car wreck, but they're very robust and reliable. The Remington 710 is just bad. Even late-war Mosin-Nagant rifles with the really obvious unfinished machining marks and hastily fitted stocks seem better built than the Rem 710 I once considered buying."Two dead?!? HOW?!?"

My buddy has one - in 7mm mag LOL. I tease him for buying the cheapest rifle chambered in the most expensive round.
Funny thing is that even as fugly as it is, the thing is a tack driver. It defies all the reviews and even logic. He even has the crappy Bushnell scope on it still.
If someone were giving one away or selling it for stupid cheap I'd buy one for the hell of it. I know I'm in a very small minority there.Originally posted by jonnyt16I know the safety nazis will kill me for this, but there's nothing like a mag dump of .223 tracer rounds at night out of your AR with a little bit of firewater in your system. Man what a feeling!Comment

^^^ Wait until the bolt handle breaks off or so other such trouble and he(and you) will be singing a different tune.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
