    1903 questions guru's do help!

So I have been debating over a new .30-06(be it a 70 or a 700) then someone suggested a 1903. So when one came along for a decent price I bought it! I do not know much other than the date of manufacturing was 1928, and it looks a bit different in what I see when I google "1903"! It shoots nicely( I pulled the scope for the serial#) with a decent group. Can anybody educate me on my purchase??

I once pondered over the debate of 9mm vs. .40, then I was introduced to .38 super and 10mm and forgot all about it.

Looks like a heavily sporterized 1903 Springfield. A fairly decent job at that. Stock is either a Fajen or Bishop. Most likely Bishop. What led you to 1928? If it is, it is definitely a high number receiver, which are considered the safest. Also looks like it has a speed lock firing pin, or a streamlined FP Rod. Some feel that pin compromises some of the gas handling in case of case rupture. OEM firing pin rods were flared on the end. Yours is straight. The flare was part of the design to deflect gas away from the shooters face.
1903's are some of the best handling/shooting rifles out there.

looks like mine, not worth fixing it to look original. shoot it, rebarrel and shoot some more.
