effective range of a 22-250?

I had a Remington varmint in 22-250 and it was very accurate, but I never shot it over 100 yards before selling it. I've found another 22-250 that has peaked my interest (mauser) and I'm wondering how far out you can stretch this caliber. Thanks

These guys pretty much have it right. With a little work, the 22-250 will get out there. I've always used a 55gr bullet[Sierra]. The 22-250 really is a very good cartridge. Buy it.

Totally depends on the twist rate of the barrel. If it's a slow twist like a 1:14 or 1:12 you will be limited to light bullets. If it has a fast twist rate like a 1:9 or 1:8 you can get out to 1000 yards with heavy bullets.

The twist rate of the barrel and the bullets you use will be the determining factor.
If you built one with a 1:7.5 twist barrel and shot 90gr VLD's, they become a 1000+ yd rifle very nicely.
If you are shooting 40gr bullets through a 1:15 twist, you are done by 200-250yds.

Hmm, so to really get the distance, I'd likely have to change out the barrel. The gun in question is a really nice parker-hale mauser. Searching the interwebz, I believe it's a 1-13.5 twist barrel

If you shoot the 90gr bergers at 22-250 velocities, you could match or beat trajectory with a 300 win mag shooting 190 smks (pretty damn decent)

note, as Randall said, you'd need a very fast twist.

I have a model 99 featherweight. in 250-3000. I like it so much I bought a savage 22-250 and swapped out the barrel to 250-3000. Love it.

The problem with light bullets in 22-250 is the wind. If there is no wind you can see the wake of that 52 grain bullet out to 600 yards as the sun comes up to commence shooting P-dogs. If you can find an accurate load using 55 grain SBK.

Out to 600 with a 55 gun pill. 0-400 no problem. Great round but barrels do heat up quicker compared to .223.

400 yards on a ground squirrel is my farthest shot took a few rounds to get the Kentucky windage and luck right! 55gr sx work best for me .
Right now I am looking at getting a Mossberg MVP varmint . My thinking is with the 1 in 9 twist will work better with the lead free?

IKR! My 1/14 twist Win 70 HBV is useless for shooting ground squirrels at long range. Just burn out the barrel and get a 1/9 twist installed.

I've shot coyotes with the 55 VMax out to 300 yards and prairie dogs past 500 yards. The 69 and 70 grain bullets work a lot better out of my 10" twist gun, I've shot the 69 grain SMKs to 1,000 yards on paper.
