After many years away from shooting & hunting I got a Weatherby Vanguard in 30-06 & am content.

But, to start from scratch right now I'd get a 308, maybe even a .243. Vanguard, Tika, Browning... all good.

Mossberg Patriot-Vortex synthetic in .270 Win.

7-1/2 lbs. all up... great classic low-recoil stock, soft recoil pad, good optics, and near MOA accuracy.

      My boys love theirs.

Really nice rifle and a great price-point.

I have a winchester featherweight chambered 300 WSM with a muzzle brake and it has recoil of a 270 pretty much. It's a fun little rifle to play with and will knock down muleys with a vengeance. I wouldn't think twice on putting my crosshairs on a moose with it.
