I have inherited a reloading collection. How many extra brass casings do reloaders keep? I can see going to the range and trying maybe 10 different round combinations made up of maybe 5 to 7 rounds each combination, but I am guessing I have like what appears to be like 1000 rounds of one caliber, some loaded, some fired, some primed, and some cases have only been cleaned. And then repeat that, give or take a few hundred for many other calibers I do not even own rifles for. I ordered Cabelas Kintic bullet puller to start emptying the loaded reloads, only because I do not know what he loaded as far as powder and what bullets he reloaded with. All the hand written reload information has faded from being unused and stored for so many years. I seen a website who will give me store credit for once fired brass, but GOD only knows how many times these have been reloaded. Not to mention the smorgasbord of different manufacturers or military armories the brass is from. I must have 500 rounds of 30-06 brass in one gallon zip lock bags that are all stamped with military head stamps, manufacturers head stamps, and some with just the caliber. It is all like this though. Is this a keep 100 of the calibers I have and sell to brass to a recycle place or is this brass worth selling to other reloaders. Is it that important to keep track of the number of times its been fired/reloaded? On the note of the bullet puller, I know I will get a sore wrist after a while, but is there a faster more efficient bullet puller on the market? I have a press, but not the traditional rcbs type press, I use a arbor press, so the collet typ unfortunately will not work for me.

How many brass casings?

I have in excess of 9000 cases of one cartridge. I have over 1000 cases of many cartridges. As they wear out I chuck them and use more. When I can I add to what I have. I keep cases I do not use to give to people who want/need them.
If you have the room keep them all. If not sell them. It is up to you.
If you are not interested in reloading then just sell the stuff IN THE RELOADING FOR SALE section. NOT here!
If you are near me I would be happy to look at what you have and help you to decide what to do.
Yes it is a good idea to know how many times a case was loaded, if it has been FL resized or just neck sized and other things.
Good luck with your stuffA 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

You have to understand that "serious shooters/competitors commit to a rifle caliber and 500-1000 rounds/cases/loaded ammo is typical after load development for the various venues they may compete in with the caliber/rifle is complete.
I have and addiction where I have multiples of rifles I use in various venues (benchrest, silouette, highpower, military rifle, scheutzen, smallbore position, mid/long range.) And you should see my reloading bench.
Hunters maybe shoot 20-50 rounds a year, a pinker may do 250-1000 and mostly surplus military ammo because they don't understand ACCURATE SHOOTING.

I also inherited a reloading setup a few years ago... I did have alot of brass and dies I didn't have guns for.... I kept what seemed like a cartridge I'd be interested in in the future, or for the rifles my other family members have. I sold the stuff I would never own like 303 brit. I really just used the funds to buy what I needed. Don't be afraid to keep stuff granted you have a interest in reloading as this stuff never goes bad.
You may also buy a rifle or handgun simply because you have the stuff to reload it too... It's a incurable disease.
I'm in Beaumont if you happen to be in the region and need some help figuring heads from tails hit me up!

I have several 5 gallon buckets each of .223 and .45 acp and a bucket or so each of .40 and 9mm.
I'm getting ready to do most of my reloading for the next year, which I typically do in the spring because my shop gets warm in the summer. When I get busy, I'll spend a week to 10 days doing nothing but cleaning, brass prep, and reloading. Just finished resizing and trimming a bucket of LC 5.56, which I should have reloaded by the end of next week.

For all of you with a bunch of old, fired cases you'd like to make use of....I do something you might be interested in.
I'll decap the brass, clean with stainless steel media and machine-anneal it - just .10 per case.
Comes out like new and the necks will all have similar neck-tension. Ready to size, prime and load.
PM me.

I have a few thousand Lapua Magnum cases and a few hundred 9mm luger. Or, maybe it's the other way around.
Anyhow, it should be apparent in that it'll vary dramatically based on your application. If you can use range brass, then you'll end up with plenty. If you need good brass, you'll end up with a lot less. The only important thing is whether you have enough to meet your shooting needs.Comment

I have 15 gallons of .223 brass alone and easily over 100 gallons of mixed brass. I'll spend a day sorting it out and then will just let it accumulate in the mixed bin until I run out of sorted. I know reloaders who keep accurate count of how many pieces they have and they can look at their book and tell you how many times each piece has been fired. With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.
