Remington 700 ADL At The Range

Bought a $400 Remington ADL in 223 from Dicks Sporting Goods and picked it up on December 4th but never got to shoot it.

Well we finally shot it last Saturday using factory Hornady Zombie ammo with a 55 grain bullet.
The gun and barrel were not cleaned just taken out of the box and shot after the scope was put on.
First impressions are the factory scope will be adequate for hunting purposes but the large crosshairs don't allow for aiming tightly on round dots. If we had used a target that we could bracket it would have helped.
Trigger was good enough for a hunting rifle and while too much pull weight for a dedicated target gun it wasn't detrimental to our accuracy like the scope was.
The picture shows the first 5 shots out of the factory rifle with factory ammo shot dirty out of the box.
I plan on putting a good scope on it intended just for target shooting to see if we can't tighten up the groups then putting the factory scope back on it for hunting.

Should have gotten a Savage Axis. Everyone on the internet knows you don't have to pay double for Remingtons pour quality when you can get sub 1/8" out of the box accuracy with a Savage.

I actually own a Savage that's why I switched to the Remington.
Once the bolt handle is lifted on the Remington it is ready to fire and I prefer that over pulling the bolt all the way back to cock the trigger.
The first three shots were that triangle and on Calguns that is considered in the zero's.
Reality was the scopes large crosshairs shouldn't be usedwith the target we had so we will swap it out and try it again.

I've found my Savage .223 to really like Federal 55gr from Wally World; cheap and accurate

Will put some rounds down range once I break out my R700 .308 next week and I'll see how it compares to my other Savage also in .308

Yes I got it on a black Friday deal last year.
I will put a Nightforce on it and see if it helps me hold a better point of aim.
Billy"The Kid" in the picture couldn't get a good aiming point either.
I am thinking just adding the scope will remove those two outliers.

We live in a golden age, I tells ya. $400 for a complete rifle package that shoots fine for hunting and casual range work. Easily upgradeable, too.

Groups look about right for a factory Remington.

I agree on the groups but the limit on there size was the scope. It completely covered the 1/2 inch and 1 inch dots we were aiming at.
If you notice the rear bag costs 1/3 the price of the entire gun but I didn't have a front bag that would fit the stock so I used a Caldwell bag.
As this is strictly going to be a hunting rifle it is already good enough using factory ammo for that purpose.
The first three shots are sub 1/2 minute so I want to use a scope and target that work together just to see what it will do.

Nominal 223 boltface is about 0.380".
Nominal 7.62x39 boltface is about 0.445".
