Rossi 92 reassembly tips

The video with the British accent has a helpful tip of doing a dry run without the ejector first. Connecting the lever to the bolt without the ejector was a good practice and gave me an idea of how far to take out the bolt and where to insert the lever. However, before inserting the bolt, read the part about the pin below.

Putting the pin through the receiver, bolt, and leverbefore I connected the lever to the bolt, I held the grooved end of the pin, put some lube on the other end and vigorously spun and thrusted it in and out of the hole to smooth the edges. However, do not smooth out the grooves, because the grooves prevent the pin from going straight through the bolt. I also did a dry run and punched the pin through the lever and bolt outside of the rifle to make sure it worked. Refer to the picture that shows the pin flush with the bolt.

After the bolt and lever are assembled, CLEAR THE LIVE ROUND from the chamber before installing the hammer

This should be a good thread. I've done all the easy mods to my Rossi's but I really never had a reason to take the action apart, yet!!

I've found that shooting it and working the action has smoothed then out pretty well.

I only take exception to your working the pin that holds the lever to the bolt.

That lever-to-bolt pin is meant to be removed and installed by tapping it lightly with a small hammer and punch, so I wouldn't attempt to smooth it's ingress and egress (I know you're not smoothing the grooves or splines) into and out of the bolt. One does not want that pin to move once it's installed.

You're right, don't want that pin to move around. Mine was rough enough where I had hard time punching it through with a hammer and punch. So a little spin and thrust were in order.

I just picked up the new 92 20" case hardened 357. Rossi is stepping it up. This gun is nice and solid. I wont take the action apart unless I need too.
They even fitted the wood on this one, unlike the other two I have

I ran some snap caps through it and took it apart. I spray the action and barrel down with break cleaner and let it dry. The woods going to get Toms 1/3 pine tar and the natural wax.
This gun is so much more impressive then my other two I have. I'm thinking when Taurus took over, this part of their gun business when down the crapper and it took Rossi a while to get back on track.

Have you guys noticed the wood in the second video the OP posted.

I wont take the action apart unless I have to. I've found that a good cleaning, working the action and shooting a few hundred rounds smooth's is out pretty well.
