Win. 70 Featherweight recoil mitigation

How might one go about this?

The rifle is chambered in .300WSM. I have purchased a limbsaver, are there any other suggestions?

How effective are muzzle breaks? How difficult would it be to thread the barrel? I know of nobody who does smithing in the Bay Area....

Your shooting position also matters. In bench or prone, your shoulder is taking the brunt of it. If sitting or standing, your torso rocks with the rifle and absorb some recoil.

Also make sure you have a good shooting stance where the rifle is in the pocket and pulled in tight.

I'm shooting bench. I bought a hunting gun, yet am using it for a target gun.....I'm so smart

What I *should* do, is rebarrel it with a bull barrel, restock it with a heavy match stock, and change its POU...

Anyways, I am looking into muzzle breaks. Hopefully that, with the limbsaver, will help significantly

Or you can sell the Win70 and save up for an FN SPR A5. By the time you rebarrel and change the stock, you probably won't be far off an SPR anyway.

So let's back track to why you bought this rifle in this calibre. What target are you trying to shoot at what distance? If you're going after long long range, take a look at 6.5 Creedmoor, x47 Lapua, or the good ole x55 Mauser. 6.5 is basically an external ballistics wet dream.

There are gun shops all over the place in the east/south bay area. Start asking if they know any smiths, then see if you can look them up to make sure you won't get chazzed. There are definitely gunsmiths in the bay area.

Just sell that rifle and get something more appropriate for the shooting you're actually doing. When it comes to recoil mitigation, nothing beats weight. From the bench shooting paper, you'll be very happy if your rifle weighs 11 or 12 lbs.

If you insist on keeping this rifle, I'd buy a Lead Sled before I started altering the gun.

I don't live in the Bay Area so I don't have a recommendation beside Ken in Oakhurst...

Winchester puts the BOSS on some rifles. Trading your rifle in on a new one with BOSS might be cheaper than having a gunsmith put one on yours.

I'd recommend Don Lazzarini Gunsmithing in Santa Clara. Good guy, good work. Very busy so the wait times might be a bit longer than you'd like.
Or you might want to look at a Tikka Sporter and sell the one you have. Ten pounds without scope, heavy barrel (20" is threaded, 24" generall is not), very smooth action, very accurate and not a bad price for its goodness.

...the .270 WIN.

1/3 less recoil (18.6 lb-ft V. 27.8 lb-ft), shoots just as flat, kills just as dead.
