    Reputable Gunsmith SoCal?

Hi, I am looking for a gunsmith. I have a 1917 model Remington bolt action 30.06 rifle and I bought a Redfield Revolution 3x9x40 scope. I was told some possible drilling would be needed and a gun/riflesmith is the way to go. I went to Bain & Davis and they told me to go to Mike's in LB but then word of mouth and reviews told me to stay away from Mike's. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you mean an M1917 Enfield?

1917 model Remington bolt action 30.06 rifle
Just to clarify...you have a Remington-made M1917 Enfield in .30-06 Springfield, right? Check this out: http://www.odcmp.org/503/rifle.pdf

Try Mark Bunach, the Orange County Gunsmith (www.ocgunsmith.com). He specializes in older guns. He did a complete refurbish job on my 1896 Krag-Jorgensen bolt action. He could mount your scope. Do you have scope mounts and rings?

If not, try this one: http://www.brownells.com/optics-moun...461-29489.aspx

S&K makes great scope mounts for military guns. I used those mounts on Mauser K98's that I sporterized and used for hunting.

As far as rings, these will work: http://www.brownells.com/optics-moun...prod67458.aspx

I'd recommend the medium scope rings.

I have sporterized tons of military guns. They are collectible and a lot of fun to shoot. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck on your project! --1911ShooterPhil

Bain and Davis wouldn't do that!? Wow, kinda surprised about that. They are usually pretty keen on things like that. Hmm.

+1 on having Randall do it.

There's also Dave's Metal Works. Can't comment on the latter but Dave comes recommended by a friend - note that he has only had work done on his 1911s.

Dave's Metal Works is not really a bolt action smith. He's best with 1911's.
                    Let Randall do it.

Randall would be my #1 unless distance affects you.

Daves Metal Works would be my #2, great guy.

Randall provides very good quality work at reasonable prices. He cut my barrel and installed a muzzle brake. I'm very happy with the results. Send him a PM.

Does the action still have the original rear sight on it?
If yes you need to grind it off and weld up the hole before adding the rear base. In the picture you can see my welding job between the bolt and the base.
