... what i need to learn about long range shooting. up till now, i've been shooting mainly with my CZ455 22LR at 50yd and even without knowing what MOA, twist rate, BDC, and all that good stuff... i still managed to shoot a tight regroup well and have tons of fun. not to mention ammo price is so cheap it was ok.

but soon my Remington 700 SPS Tactical .223 - 20" heavy barrel with 1:9 twist rate will come home and i think it's time i learn more in details of what it take to be able to take her out to 200yds and shooting sub-MOA. i know a lot of it has to do with breathing, benchrest posture, trigger pressure techniques, different loads/ grains and much more.

is there like a video on youtube that you guys can recommend.. like snipers for dummies type of vid?

well, i don't know if my .223 can even make it that far. so for now.. just trying to focus on 100yds first.. then 200yds, since metcalf shooting range is maxed out at 200yrds.

Find someone experienced and knowledgeable who can mentor you on LR shooting. A Youtube video is not going to cut it. You are selling yourself short.

200 yards is not what most would consider LR, but it's certainly the right process for you: crawl, walk, run. Start small, basic - don't try to master everything all at once.

May I suggest purchasing 100 rds of different brands of .223 in the bullet weight of your choice(55gr FMJ is about the cheapest). Pick one to start off with, zero you gun and then try the rest out to see which one the gun likes the best. Use the remaining that you have bought to practice, and most important enjoy yourself.

for my R700, i got the following ammos to break her in with and to see which she likes best.

If you really wanna push your accuracy you will need better ammo

static2126: yup.. that much i know. at other forums, many have suggested to get match grade ammo for my CZ455 to shoot, which i had done comparison and in the end, even fed automatch will shoot just as tight as Eley or Fed Gold Metal. hell.. both of my CZ455 loves the norma tac22 the best.

so right now just trying to find out the ammo that she likes best first.

Read a lot and shoot with a purpose, have an objective when you head to Metcalf.

Save the fired brass from what you've purchased and order the Lyman's reloading manual now. Read, read and read about hand loading for precision rifles and start with a single stage press and good dies and learn to handload, .223 is easy to load for and tune. Don't expect great accuracy from factory ammo.

Use a good bipod and rear squeeze bag. Buy the best scope you can afford. Replace your factory trigger with one with a a lighter pull-weight.

There are no shortcuts, put in the time and keep it fun.

i'm shooting benchrest.. so both the rest, rear bag and scope is already taken care of.
