    looking for some rifle that...

can be easily taken down and stored in a backpack style. i know AR can easily be taken down, but i've tried some before and didn't really like how it felt. but mostly prefer single action type.

i know Ruger SR-556 is the AR style that is a takedown model... but not my kinda rifle i had in mind.

another is the Browning BLR .223 rem takedown, which seem very interesting.. so that's on my list for now.

there are others like the sauer 202 takedown, but out of my price range.

any others? i'd like it to be chambered in .223. thanks~

The Keltec SU16CA folds in half, uses AR mags - but it is a semi auto

single action type? I suggest handi rifle. Nice thing about those is (before the barrel program was ended) they were very cheap so it wasn;t so bad to be banging around a pack. Only 4 pieces. barrel, action/stock, foregrip, and screw. And if you used a knurled hand screw, it's toolless.

500 S&W, 45/70, all the way down to 223 or .22LR. up to 10 ga actually.

there is a cult following behind the handi rifle.

And for a range toy you can get a 300blk barrel.

        --------------------------------------

I've gone on hikes with a 12 ga taken down in my pack. Just in case I stumble on an area that has something interesting (quail)

The old savage mod 99 comes in some take down models. Lever action but don't think they came in 223 though.

For what purpose do you need a backpack rifle?
Urban bugout, long range backpacking, just because?

Using precision machined parts, a stainless steel action and barrel are converted into a takedown rifle. The action is modified to allow use of the new SAMI approved .457 WWG cartridge, the new magnum version of the old .45/70, while still allowing use of lever action .45/70 loads. The 18.5 inch barrel is ported to reduce recoil and muzzle climb. The front sight is mounted using a fiber optic front bead for high visibility and our original Ghost Ring Rear Sight is installed. Before reassembling, a reliability tune is performed on the action for feeding, extracting and ejecting including installation of our Bear Proof Ejector, Aluminum Mag Follower and Big Loop Lever. As part of the reliability tune we also install our patent pending Trigger Happy Kit for a crisp, clean 3 pound trigger pull. We fit a custom WWG logo laminated stock designed to be weather resistant and rugged which has a Pachmayr Decelerator pad installed to help soak up any leftover recoil. Finally, a full fit, finish, and function reliability test is completed and the gun is test fired before being shipped out. A 21” x 9” x 2” soft carry case is provided with each rifle.

You can replace the forend on the keltek with a non bi-pod - ar style Quad rail

For the money- they work VERY well

i'm trying to keep it around $2K or less if possible.
