My vote is to shorten the barrel so that the threads are almost even with the end of the stock (about 14") and then perm attach a Noveske KX5 to it so the KX5 is just sticking out of the end of the barrel channel of the stock.

How awesome would it to be to have a short barrelled 308 (perfect pig gun) with an actual flaming pig on the muzzle?
Am I missing the sarcasm smiley?

Sounds awesome. I admittedly need to research more prior to making the leap but my mental image of it looks wicked.

Yeah I am a hugely aesthetic guy now. I already acquired my workhorses now i want my fun novelty pieces. If i wanted pure efficiency and functionality .308 wouldnt even be in the discussion but for foolin around and having fun its affordable and relatively easy to reload so why not.

We'll see what my baby momma lets me spend after i finish this newest AR (couldnt pass up on that Green Mountain Barrels deal) and go from there. Really exciting stuff.

Desert tech srs covert is 26 inches long, has a 16inch barrel and is a bolt action. I don't think you'll find much shorter, and they are accurate too

It's also about four thousand dollars over his budget.

This is an idea whose time has come!

I have a 700 .308 with the 18" barrel...its stock but been great since I was a teenager hunting whitetail in dense brush and jack pine.

I don't hunt any more, so I'm going to go a similar direction to what you are doing...converting it to an "urban precision rifle". I define that as something really short and handy, with typical 700 accuracy out to ~400 yards. After that, the bullet can fall to the ground like a scene from The Matrix.

I was thinking 14.5 with a welded brake from Gentry or something similar and a folding stock chassis. I'm with Randall on the heavy profile barrel...the same or nearly the same as the brake would look good.

I'll be making the trip to LA to drop it off when I'm ready to do it!!

                    Maybe a XP100 would be a option?

On another note i found the savage 10 16 inch threaded to be basically perfect for me. We'll see what comes along

I have even done this with Mosin Nagants.
No problem to shorten a HOWA for you.

If you loved in an SBR friendly state, you can go even shorter than 16".
A 10" barrelled 700 in 300 blackout with a can on it would be awesome.
                          I like that...

The reviews so far definitely have not been quite as overwhelming as Savage or Howa but it does seem to fit alot of my criteria.

I love Mossberg shotguns but their rifles have always came across as gimmicky and cheesy.

But i do respect that they must just let their R and D department do whatever the hell they want.

                              I will continue to research.
