    28 Nosler

I was wondering if anyone on here had a rifle in 28 Nosler?
Im a big fan of the 6-7MM bullets, my deer rifle is a Tikka T3 in 7MM08.

Not sure, I'm honestly not very familiar with either.
For one is commercially loaded ammo.

Well I expect a few years from now the history of both
Nosler 28 and Nosler 280AI to be nearly the same as .284Win.

You ever hear of .284Win? About once a decade it makes a brief comeback. Then it just fades away. Brass is nearly unobtainable.

The problem is 7mm Mag and 7mm-08 are around. 7mm-08 is much easier and cheaper to reload for and 7mm Mag launches 168 to 180gr pils without even blinking.

Actually the 284 Winchester is pretty popular with the F-Class and other 1000 yard shooters do to its ballistics.
I don't remember the exact year but Jerry Tierney won the NBRSA 1000 Yard Nationals with one and I think our own SwitchBarrel won two National titles with his Improved case in 2015.
Brass is available from Shiraz at Bullets.com and is the new double headstamp from Norma.
My buddy George Tompkins is building a 28 Nosler and did a bunch of development work on the Weatherby 6.5-300 so next time I call him I will post back what he has to say.

284 is back in the 6.5x284 wildcat. Lapua makes brass, it's around. I guess you could neck it up?
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

The 280 AI [06 parent case] can be loaded to 7mm Rem Mag ballistics without the useless and expensive belt on the case.

The 26 and 28 Noslers use the old 404 Jeffreys case as parent. Big fat fart without a belt. But shorter and less taper and steep shoulder. Giving huge case capacity. Can be used in standard lenght actions. Whether it is AI able, I doubt it is worth the trouble.

They advertise the 28 N as the most powerfull production 7mm in the world. Whether it is actually more potent than the 7mm STW or RUM. I really don't know.

Yeah but .280AI has had a Sammi spec for like 10 years and I have only seen 1 rifle for sale at a gun store. These are all headed for the same fate as .264Mag and Nosler 26.

A very small margin of shooters will ever take up the cause.

The majority of consumers say they want better and faster. Companies make a product and then it does not sell. He'll just look at 7mm-08 it is constantly on the edge of failing in the market place. Still lots of shooters that have never heard of it.

For some reason Nosler decided to make their .280AI slightly different from Mr. Ackley's Original Published Specs.

It is like 5.56 and .223 the changes are so small that in most instances either will work in .280AI Gun. Disclaimer for safety just do not try it.

Oh. My 280 Remington is going to stay a 280 Remington. If I need more speed I'll use my 7mm Rem mag
