I didn't think the safety on a Remington 700 was on the rear of the bolt....

I don't think is a Mauser style bolt. Where's the extractor? The beginning of the claw should be visible within the first inch or so in front of the bolt handle.

Edit: It's a Mauser style shroud that encompasses the 3 position safety, but its not a Mauser bolt.

Looks similar to Winchester Model 70 bolt based on the safety feature.

There are other bolts with the model 70 style shroud mounted safety though the FIRE marking is distinctively Winchester.
More pictures of the bolt in question are needed to be sure what it is.

My vote is that it's a Ted Williams Model 53 bolt which would be a Sears house branded Winchester model 70 with cheaper made parts.
I picked this up yesterday at the local gunshow and I'm really curious as to when it was made. They were not serialized along with Winchester, so I ca...
