I always appreciate the information I can find on forums, but this right here is why it's all just information until I can send rounds down range and make it data.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

I trust this man's words. He says it's nonsense, I say it's nonsense.

Your Bartlein link looks exactly like what I posted earlier.
It would most likely be the exact link....had you put it into one of your responses in this thread. but you didn't. or it got edited out and you forgot to put it back in...or you are referring to another thread.

I found it doing my own digging into this question months ago. I have seen you also share it in other threads though.

Reading Gale's posts on other forums he makes the claim the break in "craze" was created by a someone who learned barrel making from him and then went off on their own. Not sure how his words and your back history lineup. not sure it really matters for the point I was making...that being he represents one end of the spectrum of the discussion.

As I have said in a few of these discussions...in my opinion the Bartlein guys seem to fall into the middle ground. the explain what they feel is the problem, make a suggestion of what to do, provide a suggestion for how to check progress etc. Even if they aren't correct, they are more sane than the shoot one, clean, wash, rinse repeat for some arbitrary number of times with no means to check if you are making progress to your goal.

But again, to date no one has any hard evidence one way or another as to if any break in procedure really does what people claim. or that you are better off doing a break in vs just shooting.

Claims of groups don't lie are empty because with a barrel you can't go back and prove the path not taken was the one you actually should have taken. it's a one way trip. there in lies the catch to this whole debate. no definitive way to prove your belief regarding to or not to do a "barrel break in".

I would much prefer my competitors not break in there barrels and I would much prefer they didn't clean them either.
To check the procedure you need a borescope and I think I already posted that?
I trust Bartlein and what my borescope shows me matches what they say.

I recommend nobody here ever breaks in a barrel. If I am shooting against you I recommend nobody here ever cleans a barrel.

Yes, a bore scope would be one of the tools required to prove/disprove a break in procedure.

but how many people would know exactly what to look for?

Also, needing a borescope implies more of an art than science to this. which is ok. That would not in it's self invalidate the concept. But it means experience has to be built. is that experience something one can realistically acquire with just the occasional re-barrel?

I have also yet to hear a good explanation of the roll of cleaning between X amount of shots in a formal procedure.

I am not against the idea of barrel break in simply to be arbitrary or simply because of Gale.

I am leery of the concept because somethings are still not adding up for me.
