I agree. I think all the fluting was a big waste of $. I still have to pick the rifle up from the store 8 days form now. But if the rifle shoots around 1 moa stock ill leave it be. But I am thinking ill have to throw an after market stock on it to get it free floating. Maybe a timney trigger to..

you might want to find another guide for making adjustments to your rifle. the one you linked ends with...

"The aftermarket stock will, I believe, provide a much more solid bed for the action, yielding some incremental improvement in accuracy (this is a little speculative, though....)."

Not sure I would follow someone else foot steps that can't confirm their choices yield any benefit for the cost/time etc.

Remington 700 is a good base to start. Invest in a well optic and with some good ammos, you will get some sub MOA all day long at 100yrds. I just finished setting up mine in 308, 20 inch heavy barrel and with a Vortex HST optics, it's shooting 1/2-3/4 inch grouping with Nosler match ammo.

Next upgrade would be the stock but that's about it. For now, I can say its more accurate then I can shoot it.

I keep a 6-9 on each rifle and a 9-13 in my pack.
On the few occasions where 6-9 is not tall enough, I swap to the 9-13.
                What about a 7-12"?

Folks, my bone-stock Rem 700 ADL in .308 Win shoots 1 MOA with Federal Gold Match SMK ammo out to a fair distance. This is with a Leupold VX-1 with the standard duplex reticle.

So, tjdonn, you might just try Jarhead's advice and "shoot it". See how it performs.

                    Cerakote.
If not now then soon after you see rust appearing because there happens to be humidity in our air.

I will add that you should reload for the caliber you'll be shooting.
You will learn the firearm and shoot it very well.
Do it good enough you can shoot sub MOA with an off the shelf rifle with minor upgrades such as I've recommended.

                      It's been proven.

Build it yourself. The SPS AAC all your going to use is the action. You can buy a 700 action from Brownells for $425. Then get a Badger 30 MOA optics rail Midway, nice barrel in 6.5mm (Kreiger, Bartlein, Schneider), good trigger (Timney), glass and any solid stock.
