Good advice above. In general, do the initial sight in with whatever is cheap. Start at 25 yards, when you get it centered then move to 100 yards. If I wasn't a re-loader I would probably buy three or four boxes of different factory loads, maybe a couple of 150 gr and a couple of 165 gr, and bench shoot for group. Four or five rounds off the bench should tell you what the gun likes. If you reload you already know how to work up a load. Sight the chosen load in to hit 4 inches high at 100 yards. For a California deer or a decent sized pig this will give a center the cross hairs hold out to 300 yards. You might want to hold just a touch low at 175-200 yards so you don't hit the back straps. And the leftover ammo in the unselected boxes might best be used practicing offhand shooting. Just my two cents worth.

4" is too much. Sight in 2.75-3" high at 100 yards. Hold on the animal and you will have meat in the freezer. Been doing this for many years with 100's of animals killed.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
