I have a 357 lever gun and the 77/357 and I prefer the 77/357. It's lighter, stock is longer so it fits more natural and I like that a bolt action can be worked off the bench with a low rest.
My buddy has a Rossi 92 which is a cool carbine but the short stock drives me nuts after a while. 77/357 might be an option. I do like lever action rifles, just hate the youth stocks on the Rossi 92. Wonder if Marlin stocks are as short as a Rossi?

      Well...

Took the 77/357 to the Range (25 yard indoor).

      .357 Mag./ 158 gr. FMJ-FP (Freedom Munitions)

From sitting, w/ hasty sling and elbow supported, scope on low (~2.4X) :

      - Fired one round.
      - Corrected the scope w/ 12 clicks over and 56 clicks up, and then tapped the hub w/ a magazine to to settle the cross-hairs.
      - Shot a Five-shot group 12 O'clock just out of the 1" orange aiming bull (~+5/8") that you could cover w/ a Nickel.

Perfect setting and <1.5 MOA precision.

      Winning!

Still have a little issue w/ the feeding/mags... but will work on it.

I have lusted after one of these rifles for a long time. But I have a Marlin 1894C that is extremely accurate with my cast loads so I can't seem to justify the expense.

As far as loads on revolvers and carbines I will add this. I don't shoot the max revolvers loads in my Marlin. I shoot only cast now a days and the 1400 fps loads from my N frames go a little too fast in my Rifle and accuracy suffers.

I have found that if I keep the MV in my rifle around 1600 fps the accuracy is consistent. That is a 12" steel gong at 150 yards and a 6" gong at 100 yards with iron sights. So a 1200 fps load for my S&W's is just about perfect in the Marlin. Besides, my rounds are 180 gr WFN bullets and I imagine they pack a punch at any speed.

Great purchase, congratulations. Rugers are awesome.

Argh, I've wanted one of these so bad, but I can't commit enough to go ahead and order one. I would buy it on site if my LGS would have one in stock, all they carry are the 77/44 though, and I don't reload .44 yet so I don't want to buy that one.

44 mag is nice too. I'd trade my Rossi 92 for a 77/44...anyone?
