    ** Bighorn Actions **

Does anyone use a Bighorn action?

If so, what do you think of them?

I am considering a custom build and have heard some positive things about Bighorn actions. One of the benefits is the ability to change calibers, since you can swap out the bolt head for only $125.

However, I do not know anyone that uses one and they do not appear to be very common. I spoke to one gunsmith who had never heard of them.

Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

i remember my smith mentioning bighorn actions and if I recall correctly, the 2012 SnipersHide group build were built on bighorn actions.

That being said, the flavor of the year(s) has been defiance deviant actions. You really cannot go wrong with defiance, bighorn, surgeon, or stiller if you are looking for a custom action. 3rd gen sells them and has some in stock.

I've handled them. They're nicely made and nothing too fancy. Nice side release, one piece bolt/handle and integrated recoil lug which makes barrel swaps easier.

Appears that they don't make a closed-bottom receiver, all have cutouts for mag-feeding, but that's what most want.

Interesting, a Remington footprint with a Savage style, floating bolt head.

They've been around for a few years now, surprising people haven't heard of them. If you search over on snipershide, I think you'll find pretty much everyone that has one only has really good things to say about them.
