Boyds stock

I just picked up a 1948 Marlin 336A in 30-30 with no wood. I'm thinking about using a Boyds stock and I'd like to know if anyone has used one on a lever gun and what you thought about the fit.

I've bought a few Boyds stocks for rifles that were probably a bit more of a challenge to fit than a lever action and they just dropped in. So long as the 1948 version Marlin is the same as the current 336 I think you'll be fine. Regarding the forend, there were a few different versions, I don't know what Boyds offers or interchangeability.

I think my 1st choice would be to try Numrich. Perhaps just my issue, but adding new wood to an older rifle would look a bit odd to me. If the Marlin looks brand new I suppose that wouldn't matter.

I have had great success with Boyds, drop right in with very little if any fitting.

I like Boyd's stocks. I've used them for years. Recently though I've been trying to discourage my customers from using them. They have a company policy against sending AR/AK stocks, or anything with a thumbhole into CA. I've talked to them a number of times, as have others, they aren't changing their policy.

Now the policy itself doesn't offend me, I think it's foolish, but they are entitled to set the rules for their own business. The part that offends me is that after they found out I had a shop, every time I called they offered to set me up as a dealer. So their policy is ironclad if you want 1 or 2 stocks. But if you want to buy 30 of them, their policy changes. Either you want our business here in CA, or you don't. But don't tell me your lawyers told you not to ship to CA, then offer to ship me 30 stocks.

I won't buy another Boyds stock. I bought the classic for my Howa 1500 and it was cut so badly that the barrel leaned to the left. I decided to pay to have the stock fitted and bedded and the gunsmith told me that it was so bad that he couldn't straighten it out. I emailed Boyd's with photos and they never responded. Crappy product with piss poor customer service in my humble opinion.

I ended up buying from Macon Gunstocks. I'll let you know how it turns out and post some pictures. I am also not a big fan of companies that restrict shipments to California.
