    Remington 783

I wanna make an educated guess that since the they're part of 700 family, that the 700's magazines are compatible with the 783? I want to get a 10 rounder.

I want to say that they only support 783 magazines, but you can try the 700.
Let me know what you find, as I'm picking up my .223 783 on Thursday!

Your educated guess would be false.
There is no parts-commonality between 700's and 783's.

Nope. Almost nothing is the same.

Remington went to considerable lengths to make sure the 783 wouldn't hurt the 700 market.

Closest you get is being stuck with the 783 using two 700 Weaver front bases if you want to mount a scope...because it would be the end of life as we know it if the Remington Gods made it so you could have options.

Yes even the take down screw threads are different; 1/4"-32 versus 1/4"-28 for the 700. But the parts that interchange between the Remington 700, the Savage 10/12 (or whatever model number they use this week) are the Savage Small Shank barrel nut, and the various Remington 700 precision recoil lugs. Of course the Remington 783 receiver needs a slot to fit the recoil lug pin, or use of the Badger Ordinance Remington 700 lug fixture to hold it place while torquing down the barrel. The 783's front take down screw is not in the same location as the 700's (at least on the long action) but the Badger fixture is slotted so it can match the hole location, and fits a PT&G OEM style precision .250" lug perfectly.

Barrels between the Savage, Remington 700 and 783 are not interchangeable.

The Savage small shank barrel nut will fit the thread of the Remington 700 barrel and is the same as that on the 783 - exactly. I measured and tried the Savage nut on the 783. The Savage nut wrench also fits perfectly. Although the Pac-Nor Rem-nut barrel nut for the 700 is more stylish, the Savage nut is used by some aftermarket barrel vendors. One day I may check and use the Savage nut on a Bergara Remington 700 barrel I have, as that strap wrench isn't the best for consistent torque.

Why didn't they have all this fun stuff when I was a kid?
