Remington 700 trigger recall finalized - Walker and XMP

Remington has finalized and combined the recalls for
    * Walker triggers ("trigger mechanisms with a component part known as a trigger connector") manufactured on any date, and
    * X-Mark Pro (XMP) triggers manufactured from 5/1/2006 and 4/9/2014.

    Details here: http://remingtonfirearmsclassactionsettlement.com/

The XMP recall has been around for a while, and there is still a separate page for it on the Remington website, but this settlement now includes also the Walker triggers (including the 40X on my 700P...dang) and a slightly different approach.

I can't find any threads here with this new link, though I'm sure the dupe monitors will point me to any that exist within 30 seconds. :-) There are older threads that are now closed, and it's too bad we can't update those because folks may get confused but hopefully this will help.

Remington put the above web page up about a month ago, very quietly compared to all the noise that was generated in the news media when it was announced they would try and settle. It got past me until Yahoo served up an ad pointing to that page (which is kinda creepy because I was not on a related page at the time, but that's how web advertising works).

I have two of those triggers that I bought knowing I was going to toss them anyway, so I certainly would not sign onto a class action suit as I have suffered no losses physically or economically.

I do not have a high opinion of class action suits. If you have a legitimate claim, then you be best filing your own complaint.

      What JMP said.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

Good basic design, poor owner maintenance (regular cleaning with lighter fluid) is the culprit.

Nothing more then a good cleaning and tune up (stoning burrs and rough sear surface edges) and you can make them more reliable and have a lighter pull weight

I just bought after market triggers for two of my three Rem bolts. I have no desire to subject my rifles to shipping and a recall assembly line refurbishment. I'll donate the old triggers to the trash. -g

If there was ever a company that deserved to lose a class action suit, it is Remington Firearms under the ownership of the Freedom Group. They have turned their backs on the safety of loyal sportsman who have patronized their company for generations.

We all know that there's not a real safety issue with Rem triggers. Only a few stupid people who didn't follow basic safety rules and were looking for a meal ticket and someone to blame. The triggers are okay for hunting applications, just not bench
accuracy. I believe some one wants Big Green out of business. -g

G-man, if you give me a Rem trigger, I can lighten way up and create an unsafe condition (that will fire upon release of the safety) in as much time as it takes me to find the right hex wrench. This is what I expect was the majority of the so-called accidents. The XMP trigger isn't really adjustable as they advertise, so I think folks did a DIY improvement and lost their sear engagement.

I'll look you up when I make down south, but I really wanted to nail them to Randall's shop wall. -g

Does he have that? If so, I can make a donation.

Just substitute General Motors. I predict within 10 years GM will no longer exist in the US (they'll go bankrupt again and not give .gov a chance to bail them out) they have already transfered most of their engineering and are ramping up production for the world's biggest upcoming middle class - in China.

Actually, at this point, it is more so in Mexico for the manufacturing.
