My just-for-kicks- super budgeted tacticool Axis build.

To start off, I know the Axis is an incredibly value-lined rifle, but I picked this one up from a friend in what most of us would call pretty horrible shape. Spray painted (including scope) with a very, VERY botched attempt at threading with a die, and the stock coated in spray on bedliner. Not the prettiest rifle. In fact, it was so ugly, it was one of those that your a little ashamed to be PPT'ing.

Fast-forward to yesterday. Finally got all the parts together, as well as some stuff I had laying around at put it all together. Additions included:
    -Boyds stock
    -1 Piece base
-Spare bi-pod I had laying around
-Spare cheap Barska I had, that holds zero well.
    -Larger bolt knob
-Miculek brake (Don't really need it on a .223, but looks nice)
-Lighter trigger spring (also polished it all up, while it was apart)

Special thanks go out to Fire4Life22, who always has me covered on all my cerakote needs. He did a killer job on the FDE, and doing the bolt in black was a very nice touch.

Another special thanks goes to w210838, who cut, crowned and threaded my barrel. I would love to recommend his work to every in northern CA, for very reasonable, quality work with a FAST turnaround.

The goal was to keep the whole thing under $400, and it will just be a fun knock-around gun for plinking and ground squirrels and what-not. Came in about $30 under budget, I cant embed pics from work, but attached is a few. Take it easy on me, as its my first bolt gun tear-down.

This is true. I was actually pretty happy with the accuracy before (As marred up as the barrel was, the crown was ok) and it was minute-of-squirrel at 200y pretty consistently. I'm hoping that hacking off 2in didn't cost me too much velocity, but realistically I never shoot much passed that anyway.

I stand corrected. 2in. Jeez, I forgot how boogered up that thing was.
In the previous owners defense, I did some of that with a pipe wrench. What they say about the Axis having blasting media stuck in the threads from the factory is very true. It was a tough nut to crack.

                only accurate rifles are interesting

I borrowed that from someone, but how does she shoot?

Looks like a great re-build. Brought back from the depths of, "What the **** did you do to that thing?!?"
