Ross Schuler is the best. He will make it right the first time. I have a couple and love them.

If it's a sporter weight barrel, a muzzle brake will tame the recoil.
If it's a sporter barrel, it won't be good for shooting more than a dozen rounds before the barrel is smoking hot and wandering all over the place.
Sporter barrels are great to carry all day and fire 1 to 3 rounds.
Sporter barrels are not good in the role of a target rifle where you want to fire 20+ rounds per range session.

The Palma contours are a good substitute for a sporter if you also want to target shoot. They are good for all-purpose shooting. Light enough to carry around, but heavy enough to remain accurate for a string of firing.

Interesting conversation about the bore size of a brake and how important it is...

I know folks have done studies on this stuff but interestingly, the one brake that is popular right now, it seems the bore size isn't all that relevant according to the manufacturers anyhow.

According to APA, because of their brake design, one can use one bored for 338, and it'll pretty much work for any bullet smaller than that.

I am skeptical but am going to try out my 338 APA Gen II Fat Bastard on my 308win and 6.5cm

Even though it is a magnum round, you may not need a brake at all for 7mm. If your barrel is heavy enough, you should be fine. You get into the .300 or .338 magnum and up range and you'll want a brake no matter what.
