    Congratulations on your purchase, OP.

    Hey, welcome...

One idea is to get on the email notification at RIFLEGEAR.com

They get various Marlin Lever Guns in stock. Good company as well.

I wanted a 45-70 but they are pretty scarce at a decent price. I found an 1895 .450 Marlin and the price wasn't just right -- it was great. I load my own for it so ammo isn't a problem.
Don't be afraid to pick up what most consider a dying cartridge; with a supply of empty brass you can keep it shooting for years.

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

For me, if not for the 45-70 in the Marlin(or 450, 444), I would look at old Savage 99, Win-88 or a Browning BLR. I'd much rather have 300 Savage, 308, 30-06 etc in a lever, than a 30-30. The 30-30, although it has been used for hunting for 100+ years, is just note that great a cartridge IMHO.

The GBL is a nice looking rifle. The only thing I would do would be to put some skinner sights on it and a galco Safari Ching sling. I wouldn't change your choice. If you want a straight stock, you can always buy a used Marlin 336 Texan in 30-30 and still one up your friends again.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

Don't want to scare you but my Remlin 336 BBL was a nightmare. It had canted sights, the stock loosened up and came off the rifle after 20 rounds, and the action was rougher than alligator hide. I took it out once for 40 rounds and then immediately sold it after. I was so bummed because it was such a beautiful rifle.
