Savage Arms production lead time.

Has anyone here ever had to wait for a production rifle to come in stock from Savage? How long did you wait? I want a specific model, and evidently so do a bunch of other folks. None to be found from my local gun shop so the best they can do is take my deposit and wait for some to appear at the distributor.

Is this fairly normal for popular models? How long would you wait before you looked at an alternative brand or model? It's not like I need it right now, so I don't mind a little bit of a wait, but I just don't know how Savage deals with backlog.

Bottom line is what is a normal wait time from Savage for something that is popular?

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem waiting. Heck, I would be thrilled if it were only 30 days. But if it is going to take 9 months to a year to see the rifle, well then that would be a different story and I might start looking for a decent used one or an alternative.

Some major manufacturers build according to a production schedule. If you call them, they may be able to tell you when that rifle is due to hit the production floor.

About 18 months ago I tryed to pro-deal one of the little 17hmr synthetic stock bolt rifles. After six months I canceled my order because I got tired of waiting.

I was on an email alert with a couple websites for that fcp-sr. You need to be checking your email frequently and be ready to jump on those deals.
It popped up once for a few hrs before it was out of stock.
I ended up with a Hog hunter I found just sitting there on a local indoor range's online website, of all places. I took it as a sign since it was a fairly rare find.

I recently saw some rifles in that range but I don't think that was one. Anyways you can always install the Page Monitor extension for chrome and use it on a few places that sell it.

I'd say set a predetermined time limit in which you will just cancel, and just expect nothing. That way, you lower your expectation and it may or may not come. Simply because there just isnt a way to tell.

This is one of my Pet Peeves with the gun biz. I see no down side to communicating roughly when certain out of stock and back ordered guns are due for arrival.

No reason why they couldn't have a pretty darn good (but not 100% legally guaranteed) cute little company news letter of guns about to be "born" and even updates as the process evolves, and let buyers put dibs on guns, name them to post on the site, etc.

If nothing else it would be a great way to get eyeballs on ads and otherwise get people emotionally involved in the brand. People would learn your proprietary names for various processes and become brainwashed that your brand did lots of extra stuff to make your guns better than anyone else. Certain key employees would become internet celebrities.

As far as the news letter, naming, born on date... it's a firearm not a cabbage patch doll.
