    New Squirrel Gun

I recently traded for a new to me little used 375hh Winchester m70 built late 1981. I just wasn't satisfied with the terminal effects of my Henry 22lr. Upon having my wallet emptied for the cheaper soft points....I was pleasantly surprised that at bench with only sand bags I shot a 1" 200 yd with Federal 270 & a 2' with 300gr PPU. I was quite shocked as I have never shot less than 1 moa . I am using a Vortex 2-8 diamondback hp which has 4-5" of ER. I am very pleased with my new hunting companion.

    That's some squirrel gun.

Most of us wait until the chucks stick their head out of the hole, but I guess you don't have to...

Eye relief is important...in a squirrel gun!

....maybe I didn't ask it right ....but I was wondering if other older m70 owners or 375hh owners found this caliber or the old Winchesters more naturally accurate !....as I am not the best shot ...

The only older Win 70 I have experience with is a .270 Winchester -- my father's -- and it's accurate enough, about a 1.5 to 2 MOA gun depending on ammo. There are however any number of accurized M70's used in competition that are quite a lot better than that.

.375 H&H, never heard of a terribly accurate example, but then again given the price of ammo and the recoil I don't know of anyone who shoots them for groups.

I'd say you've found a rifle that happens to fit you very well. It obviously ain't broke, so whatever you do, don't fix it.

I've found that my 375 H&H is very accurate and less sensitive to changes in loads than smaller cartridges.

Generally, I only shoot three shot groups since it's a hunting gun and not many animals need more than three. It's pretty easy to find a load with just about any components to shoot sub MOA.

Thanks everyone for the replies ....I did think it was just too unusual to shoot .5 moa with this bazooka. Now .....if I could only find a half price sale on ammo ......geeesh

Nice squirrel gun. What do you recommend for big game, 30mm and a GAU-8?

When you start shooting guns capable of killing anything on the planet, you have to reload.

A single stage press, a shell holder, a set of dies, a scale and a loading block and you can get started.

                      Not H&H

But my 375 Ruger is stupid accurate for what it is. Definitely inspires confidence.

I second the notion that you should examine reloading. It's cost effective to start small. And if you expect to shoot that rifle regularly, your wallet will thank you.
