    Winchester M70

    I own a 1981/2 Winchester M70 375 H&H super express. (push feed)

It has a through and through hole for the posterior trigger guard screw that ends on top at the rear of the action. However, the screw does not come up all the way to the tang and sits about '4 screw rungs' down in the hole when tight.

Gun operates perfectly.....love it......shooting 300 grain factory is only about 10% 'kickier' than when I shoot 20 guage slug.

FWIW, I have seen a few M70's with rear screws just like you describe, and own a pre '64 that has the same issue. I guess it is one time it is better to have a short screw that a long one...
