    Rem 700 not loading ammo

Bought a new Rem 700 tactical 308 recently and got it out to the range for the first time today. I can't load more than 2 rounds into it. When I try to load a 3rd round it will not keep it in the rifle and instead pops it out like it's not catching the side enough to stay in. What's the deal? Also a few times I had issues chambering the last round. The bolt would not catch the round.

Those flimsy internal magazines aren't really meant for much beyond single feeding. You can get it set up for real detachable magazines--worth every penny if you want more than a single feed rifle.

A long shot but you might have a .223 follower in your rifle. I can load 5 in my 700P. Can you take your rifle back where you bought it and compare it to another .308 on the shelf?

did you remove the action from the stock? make any changes to the gun? trigger work, new stock? those are very simple. you have the box, the spring/follower and the floor plate. make sure they are all in corectly, and then like smarquez said compare to another gun if possible, could be wrong parts, it happens

Check that the spring and follower are installed the proper direction. A friend had the same problem and found the mag spring was installed back to front.,

Yes, removed the action to replace the stock with a HS stock.

How would one put an internal magazine in upside down?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                  (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

It has an internal frame, feed lips go on the top.

Gotta call BS on that one. Internal box magazines with flat springs have been going strong for over 100 years, in warfare as well as dangerous game hunting. SNEAKS probably has his assembled wrong.

Ok, checked it out. Everything was in proper but when I took it all apart and put the action, mag housing and trigger assembly back in it seemed to mate better and fixed the problem. Thanks guys!!
