    Remington 03A3

I am looking at buying Remington 03A3 that looks to be in great condition.

Here is what I know about the rifle:

Previous owner bought it years ago and never fired it.
    Lyman rear sight
    serial# 3,127,xxx
    RA 9-43 stamped barrel
    2 groove
    Arsenal Refurbished.

The gentleman could not tell me if the stock had been refinished/refurbished. Since the bore is bright and the stock looks almost like a new m1a wood stock, my guess is this was Arsenal Refurbished as well?

Anyways how will I know if the barrel and receiver are matching? Also based on the information, what would you pay?

I would need to see pictures before I hazard a guess. The Lyman peep is not original to the rifle, so I'd want to see what else was buggered up on it. The receiver date would put it sometime in 1941, so a 1943 barrel would probably be a replacement.

Any cartouches on the stock, or is it a new replacement set?

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

If the receiver was drilled & tapped for the Lyman sight, it really cuts into the collector value. I'd also be interested to know if there are any markings on the stock. Can you get some pics to post?

The Lyman peep does knock $50 or more off the price. And it does raise a red flag as to other mods which may have been done. If it is otherwise 100% usgi original as refurbed, it should be in the 500-650 range.

Serial number puts it at about June 1942.
The stock & rear sight are not original to 03A3s.Looks like it has milled trigger guard, also not original to 03A3, I think. The Lyman rear sight is worth about $100+ by its self and the C Stock is worth about $150 or so if it's a repro, $200 and up if it's an original Military stock.
Looks like a nice rifle!! What does the guy want for it?

Agree. Trigger guard not 03A3. Finish on receiver, bolt, trigger guard, and suspect butt plate not original. Butt plate, trigger guard and bolt were blued originally. Trigger guard was a stamped piece originally.

I'd buy it for that, if I didn't already have one. Mine is similar to that one except for rear sight. It was in a sporter stock when I got it.

I thought the original 1903 had a blued finish and the 03A3 was parkerized?

Yeah O3A3 was mostly parkerized with only some of the parts blued.

So $625 is a fair price? Should I put the usgi scope mount on there? I might take it hunting to Montana this summer

Bolt, trigger guard, butt plate, rear sight, front sight blade, misc screws and pins, follower, mag spring, sling swivels were blue, not parked. Though after refurbished, these would be parked is my guess.

FYI, PM if interested in a no drill scope mount and rings for an 03 As I listed for sale.

                            CMP Greek return rifle.

                            Ghillie,

Looks like a Greek return rifle, around 2004. Many were arsenal over hauled, the last 4 of the serial number appears on the right side of the stock. The black oxide finish is also a give away, I bought 2 of them in 04, one with a C-stock. $300 apiece. A2
