Hornady 140 AMAX

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I am wondering if guys are still having issues with Hornady 140AMAX 6.5 creedmoor ammo. I have read a lot about overpressure issues specifically and that the older ammo was better than some recent bad batches.

Is this something that has been corrected? How does this stuff compare to the Sierra Match King?

No pressure issues. That was the issue when there was a powder shortage and Hornady was having issues procuring powder.

AMAX has outperformed any SMK bullets I've ever used.

I ordered 40 rounds of SMK to test her out but now I feel better about my Hornady purchase.

Hornady is a little cheaper too.

You won't be disappointed. Behind H4350 powder and BR2 primers, the 140 AMAX have outperformed me! Makes for effortless shooting 1000+ yards.

The newer batches seem to have less issues from what I hear on the 6.5 creedmoor forum...yes, there is a dedicated forum to this cartridge.

The SMK's will like to jump, where the AMax's will not.

I jump my A-Max's 20K and have no issues with it shooting sub 3/8" 5-shot groups and ES/SD in the low single digits. This is more than enough accuracy for punching steel and use out to 1K. I believe a "standard" 6.5 creedmoor reamer with 140gr A-Max factory match ammo is jumping around 10-20K if I am not mistaken.

Thanks guys. I try to do my part when I can. I was been blessed to have a great teacher (dad) refine my skills for a few decades, it's transitioned nicely to my recreational and competition shooting, reloading, and my time in the service (saved my butt more times than not).

There's really about one thing that Hornady does well, that's the Creedmoor cartridges.

If you are just looking to buy factory ammo, Hornady is the way to go. You will see other brands, namely Nosler, going for quite a bit more, and I believe that is people buying the ammo mostly for the brass. Nosler and Norma brass are hard to get. I got some Nosler brass when it first came out, but it seems to be out of stock these days. I put in a backorder for Norma brass when I heard they started making it, and as far as I have seen, I believe the Norma brass to just be an urban legend at this point.
