    Bore Guides

Are there any bore guides that aren't custom made that work well?

I want to break in a new barrel next week and don't want to wait for a Lucas or Halblom.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

      Thanks. It's for a 700 chambered in 6.5 creedmor.

      Which rod are you using?

I like the Dewey with the O-Rings. I use the foamy cleaner and it seals up the chamber well.

Don't waste your time on breaking in the barrel. Clean it before you shoot it the first time and just shoot it. Maybe clean it when you get home from the range the first 100 rounds or so.

Skit and I both shoot 6.5 creedmoor so we know the caliber well.

As he mentioned, just shoot it.

if you have to "break" it in, then shoot 1-5 shots, then clean, then keep shooting it and when you get home, then maybe clean it. No need to do this 1 and clean non-sense.

You will find that if the smith did a good job with the chamber job, it will start shooting small groups within 5-14 shots after you laid down some copper and carbon down the barrel.

              Bore-guides are a hoax.

Barrel steel is harder than cleaning rod.

Just keep the grit wiped off the rod, and you are good-ta-go.

I like Outers brass rods... but used their AL fair for decades.

                Total waste of money.
Get one of the black fibre glass one piece rods and get busy.....nothing it can scratch.

YMMV, but I use bore guides in all my rifles. I agree that barrel steel is harder than most cleaning rods, especially the Dewey type, but I use the guides to keep excess cleaning solvent from soaking the bedding. The bore guide doesn't have to be a $$$ unit, just one that seals the chamber. Using a cradle to hold the rifle in a muzzle down attitude also helps.
