    2000 Yard Test Session

Guys we took a pair of 338 Lapuas and a pair of 50 BMG's out to 2000 yards on Sunday.
One Remington 700 one DTA one EDM Arms and one custom build on a McMillan action.
The remington 700 has a barrel with a lot of rounds down it and Billy The Kid was shooting it but after 28 shots it bracketed a gong but no hits.
With the DTA we switched to White Mamba as the shooter and he took advantage of the dopes from the 700 to really put a lot of shots all around 2 gongs.
It was cold and windy day on the firing line and windy at the 1959 yard gong but not too bad at the 2000 yard gong and the 2100 yard gong.
Here are a couple pictures of the rifles and one picture showing what 2100 yards looks like through a Zeiss spotting scope.

Now for the two 50 BMG rifles in use.
The first rifle was an EDM and the shooter was White Mamba. The gun has a very very nice trigger in it and a US Optics scope. Made three hits on the 2000 yard gong.
I was shooting Big Red my unlimited gun with a Nightforce 12x42/nxs.
I made 2 hits on the gong at 2000 yards and let Billy The Kid shoot it. He made the only 2100 yard gong hit.
    I will post some pictures.
As this was a tune up session it went pretty well.
We learned a lot and will be getting a match together asap.
PVC is out as a target holder. You can't throw together loads and expect a lot of hits at that distance.
You need about 10 moa more scope than your ballistic program predicts to adjust for headwinds.
Pick a very open area to hang your targets so you can see the bullet splahes.
Use heavy gongs or the 50's will blow righy through.

        Nice!
I am still piecing together my .338 LM.
I am hoping/planning to have it finished before Memorial Day.

It has about 200 moa in it so its perfect for the 50 BMG.
I just ordered a cold steel 300 MOAB base for big red.
Here are a few more pictures.

Also anyone who can shoot big red offhand shoots that day for free.

now if only you had an adapter to shoot video with your phone of the target being hit through your spotting scope.

I wasn't aware such a thing even existed. I was downrange when the picture was taken. I did try to take a picture through my night force and it didn't work at all.
Any help in finding the adapter would be appreciated. Spotting scope is a Zeiss 45 power and the phone is a Motorola android turbo ballistic nylon.

That looks like the Hensoldt 15-45x72 with H32 reticle. If so, the cell phone pic is hardly doing it justice. While they are pricey, I am a fan of Hensoldt products.

That is one of the tough things about selecting optics; you just can't do so by looking at pictures on the internet, even if you have a proper adapter and camera. On really good optics, your picture will also be limited to your camera's capability. The only way to really select optics is to use them in real life and let your eyes tell you what they like, and you must let your fingers tell you what turrets they like. With photographs, it's hard to see the texture of the target that good scopes provide.

You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

Where do you go to shoot 2000 yards in California?
My range (Avernal) can offer only 900 yards.

There's plenty of BLM land in CA that can be used for extreme range shooting, however you need to do your research and talk to the local BLM office to make sure you're going to shoot in a sanctioned area. Some are pistol and shotgun only, others are day time only and the most remote are pretty much anything goes (no tracers though).
