Just found out my son who's RH but left eye dominate, should I teach him to shoot a rifle left handed. And if so is it better to buy him a left handed bolt rifle. Or let him adapt to right hand bolts.

Right handed but left eye dominate

Like your son, I'm right handed and left eye dominant. I researched this topic a lot, and generally the recommendation is to learn shoot left handed if you are left eye dominant. If you've already learned to shoot right handed, however, the learning curve might mean you're better off not changing anything. Personally, I practice shooting on both sides, and while shooting right handed is more comfortable, I shoot equally well on both sides though I fatigue more quickly on the left.
All my experience is with AR's, but if your son is going to shoot lefty I think a left handed bolt action would be preferable. -
When my roommate took his kid to shoot full autos the made him wear safety glasses with one eye blacked out. This might help to make you better with the right eye.Comment

That's me too.....
I've always shot well with the right eye, but I started really young.
I do notice a clear lack of consistency when I'm moving. If I snap shoot fast birds I'm fine. But trying to track them with conventional technique can be a challenge. Lot's of concentration is required. (for me at anyway...)
If your boy is OK with his left hand, I'd go that route.Comment

My daughter right handed but strongly left eye dominant. I let her choose which side she wanted to shoot from and she chose left handed with rifles and right handed with handguns (still using her left eye with pistols though). Let your son try both sides as the instruction is all the same and see what he feels more comfortable with.
Probably 30+ years ago I read on article on how to in younger people eye dominance can sometimes be changed. Cover the dominant side lens on the shooting glasses with something translucent (not blacked out) and let him start shooting. This supposedly makes the brain focus through the clear lens and gradually causes the eye dominance to change.Frank

My father in law is left eye dominant and right handed. We both duck hunt and took a skeet/trap class years ago. The instructor recommended learning to shoot left handed. We tried scotch tape over the glasses of his left eye to force his right eye to become dominant. He didn't like that so just closes his left eye prior to mounting his shotgun. Good luck.Comment

This may work for shotguns? My father in law is left eye dominant and right handed. We both duck hunt and took a skeet/trap class years ago. The instructor recommended learning to shoot left handed. Im left handed/ right eye dominant. For long guns it actually makes life easier because you can shoot with your dominant eye and your dominant hand (stronger, more coordinated) gets to be your support. While I'd think that he would gravitate to shooting lefty, definitely let your son try both then decide for himself.Comment

I am right handed, left eye dominant and still shoot right handed, although i practice left handed often and feel like I am just as comfortable left handed as I am right handed. I have not seen any accuracy or performance increase.
I am devising of ways to "block" my left eye when shooting F-open rather closing one eye. Maybe some sort of block on my glasses? There is a person I shoot with that made a sort of block that is attached to his scope and effectively blocks his left eye from seeing downrange but gives him enough room to look over and see the wind flags. I might try this.Comment
