    Sako A7 Roughtech Pro

    Hi everyone,
Looking to purchase a long range rifle... And was wondering if anyone has experience behind a Sako A7?

Pros/Cons - opinion or Facts are appreciated. Thanks!

The A7 is a hunting rifle. So, if that is your application, they are nice rifles.

JMP - Yes sir, the primary use will be for Hunting. The three main rifles i was researching were:
      Thompson Center - Weathershield Venture
      Remmington - 700-XCR II
      Weatherby - Vanguard Back Country
      and the Sako

All that said it would be ideal if she was also fun to shoot from a bench...

In general, bigbore hunting guns are not fun to shoot from the bench for more than a few rounds.
Lightweight guns are great to carry around, but not good for more than a few shots before the accuracy goes away due to the barrel heating up.
Recoil will take it's toll quickly as well.

My A7 is an older model in .243. It shoots well, and COULD be shot from the bench as the recoil is manageable, but it's hardly what I'd consider ideal since the barrel is thin and is a far cry from a precision rifle. I can't speak to the other choices, but I like Sako, in general, across all models as they make good rifles all around. I am not aware of any Sako rifles that are crap. The Fins know what they are doing.

Anyone know who, near LA, might have A7's in stock? I think I want a 308 Roughtech Long Range, and have plenty of offers to order (often at considerably more than msrp) but would love to actually see one in person.

If you shoot sparingly and not over heat a skinny barrel it will shoot accurate all day long, may not shoot like a target rifle but it will shoot fine. DON'T get caught up in the heavy barrel must have for shooting paper. These guys are serious about what they do because that's all they do or a large part of what they do.

I saw a few on gb and read up on them.. Sounds like a good hunting rifle to me ... The full alum block stock and adj Sako trigger,, along with the claw extractor sells me on this hunting rifle... The XCR would be my second choice (was my first choice) ,, if Remington hadn't fallen down in the last few years... I would like to eye one and check it's fit to me before buying one.. Maybe bass pro would carry them ?? Good luck...

I looked at the A7 before I decided on the Finnlight. The A7 is a couple pounds heavier, which will soften it a bit, and the Weaver rails will give you more options for rings. The Finnlight receiver requires weird rings. If you plan on carrying this rifle on foot for longer distances, the weight comparison might be worth considering. The trigger, bolt, receiver and barrel should be very nice from Sako.
